The waste and the bag can be thrown in your backyard compost, where both items can decompose naturally. Be sure to do your research about home dog waste composting before adding any dog waste to your backyard compost piles. To kill pathogens typically found in dog waste, high temperatures (131 degrees Fahrenheit or higher) are needed consecutively for at least 3 days. Under no circumstances should cat waste be composted.
